Sega Forever – Sega’s New (FREE) Mobile Game Platform Featuring Classic Sega Games

From the Master System to the Dreamcast, Sega had one long and wild ride as a first party developer.  While those days are long gone, the bgames are far from forgotten in the eyes of fans.  Games like Altered Beast, Shinobi, Streets of Rage, House of the Dead (and it’s subsequent spin-off Typing of the Dead), Virtua Fighter, Shenmue, the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, and even lesser known games such as Nights, Jet Set Radio, Seaman, Golden Axe, the Alex Kidd series, Ecco the Dolphin, Yakuza, Skies of Arcadia, Dead or Alive and many other games and franchises are beloved by fans the world over.  Unfortunately, after leaving the console wars in 2001, Sega stagnated in their variety, mainly releasing and being known for their Sonic games, with occasional publications of games such as with the Yakuza franchise, the Alien franchise, some occasional sports games (like the Football Manager series, as it is known internationally), and sequels to older games outside of the Sonic franchise, such as Nights: Journey of Dreams, leaving most fans to suspect Sega had lost their way, and forgotten their great history full of great games and IPs, abandoning them all for the never ending, infinitely selling little blue hedgehog known as Sonic.

It seems Sega wants to debunk this belief, as they announced a new line of mobile games, known as Sega Forever, with the goal of reviving and releasing classic Sega games ranging from the Genesis to the Dreamcast, and releasing them FREE on mobile with ads for the masses to enjoy.  They released the program recently, announcing classic games would be added to iOS and Android free with non-intrusive ads that can be removed for a one time purchase of $1.99 per game.

The games available now as of today are:

Phantasy Star 2
Kid Chameleon
Comix Zone
Altered Beast
Sonic the Hedgehog

The games are available for free on iOS and Android right now.  You can read more, and see more upcoming games, here.
