Trigger announces three new shows at Anime Expo 2017!

Get excited Trigger fans! A few days ago at this years 2017 Anime Expo, Studio Trigger announced three more series in production much to our delight and surprise. The anime studio is mostly known for its vibrant and memorable works such as Kill La Kill, Kiznaiver, Inferno Cop and most recently, Little Witch Academia which has just wrapped up the previous anime season.

In true Trigger flare, the panel started with Trigger money being shot into the crowd, followed by an amusing Inferno Cop clip featuring a multitude of characters, including Little Witch Academia’s Lotte Yanson and even Donald Trump.

The panel featured Yoh Yoshinori, Takafumi Hori, Shigeto Koyama and Hiromi Wakabayashi.

Yoh Yoshinori was director and original character design artist for Little Witch Academia and was responsible for mechanical design for Gurren LagannTakafumi Hori was the main animator for Little Witch Academia and has worked on various projects such as Kill La Kill, Redline and Steven Universe.

Shigeto Koyama has worked on numerous titles such as HEROMAN, Eureka Seven, Gurren Lagann, Stardriver, Kill La Kill and even Big Hero 6 and has been leading art director for Goodsmile racingHiromi Wakabayashi was closely involved with Panty&Stocking with Garterbelt as co-creator, writer and episodic director. With such talented Trigger figures, it was definitely an exciting line up. The announcements for the three new series followed.

The first was Darling in the Frankxx.

The trailer gives off a serious intense Sci-Fi drama vibe but actually reveals very little aside from numerous talented names that will be working on the title, and that it will be a Trigger x A-1 Pictures(responsible for numerous great titles such as Fairy Tail, Black Butler and Blue Exorcist) collaboration. With two great studios working together, it’s definitely something to look forward to.

Atushi Nishigori (character designer for Gurren Lagann, director for The IDOLM@STER) will be taking the helm as the series director. Thoshifumi Akai(chief animation director for Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic) is assistant director. Handling series composition is Naotaka Hayashi (original creator of Plastic MemoriesShigeto Koyama (Eureka Seven, Kill La Kill) is responsible for mechanical designs. Masayoshi Tanaka (Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day, Highschool Of The Dead) is chief animation director in addition to tackling character design as well.

A-1 Pictures Hiroyuki Shimuzu is also involved in the project and made an appearance on stage at the Sunday panel.

Next up is Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad Gridman (aka SSSS Gridman or just Gridman)

The series (which will be in collaboration with Tsuburaya Productions) will feature an original plot and new characters, instead of a retelling of the popular 1993 series Denko Chojin Gridman. Akira Amemiya(Director of Inferno Cop) is signed on as the series director. Not much else is know at this moment.

The last of the three to be announced is Promare, a Trigger x XFLAG collaboration. Having been described by Trigger Studios themselves as being “…like Gurren Lagann x Kill La Kill”, we can potentially expect Promare to bring the most insane action and wild scenarios of the three announced series.

Gurren Lagann’s director Hiroyushi Imashi will be directing Promare with Kazuki Nakashima(Kill la Kill’s head writer) onboard handling script/story.

Sadly, like the other two new announced titles information is still scarce but we’ll be sure to follow these three projects closely.
