My initial reaction to this episode was, “Well, they got what they wanted.” But sometimes, what you think you want and what you need, can be two different things.

In the case of Molly, she decided to go with a black-owned law firm, feeling more comfortable being surrounded by those who look like her. Compared to her old law firm where she wasn’t getting the recognition she deserved, Molly believed that she’d enjoy working at a black-owned firm.

However, as we see throughout the episode, that wasn’t the case. There were things that they did that were “backwards-like” for her. Such as, using a courier to send documents to be signed, instead of Docusign.

Maybe with time, Molly will get used to how things are run in this black-owned firm but so far, things don’t seem to working in her favour. Maybe what she needs, is a diverse law firm where everyone gets equal recognition for their hard work.

With Issa, she’s trying out the relationship with Daniel and I sighed, when I thought they had really gotten back together in the opening scene.

There are many reasons why I don’t think they’re good for each other and one of the biggest ones is that I think both Issa and Daniel are trying to make this relationship work with who they were back in high school.

They’re both completely different people now and even with Lawrence out of the picture, things still wouldn’t work. As Daniel told Issa towards the end of the episode, he’s always saving her from something and I think in that moment, that’s what he wanted from her when he was complaining about Khalil. He wanted her to actually hear him out instead of giving career advice. Though he did have a point that Issa is the wrong person to be taking career advice from.

I believed what Daniel did, playing his version of the beats instead of Khalil’s, was good. He wants to get further in his career/passion and by playing his version first, he’s showing his talent instead of caving in and going along with what Khalil said Spider would like. Maybe he’ll be able to help those kids at The Beat Group, which I thought Issa would’ve brought up and suggested at their dinner.

If anything, this episode proved that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.

Stray Observation: Did anyone notice that at the dinner, Issa said she’s passionate about things but in last week’s episode, she confessed that she doesn’t have a passion? What is the truth, Issa?
